Sergers [Apr. 13th, 2008|10:26 pm]
Hello all,
I just found this community. I am looking to purchase a new serger and was interested in feedback from actual users rather than clerks who are (frequently) just trying to sell. Most of the comparison charts I have found are from the 90s and I know there have been serger improvements since then. I found a site with reviews of each machine model but there seem to be 100s of them to wade through.

I have a Singer 3 thread from the 80s and my goal is to get a good flexible chain for sewing knits. Research has yielded so far that I don't need a 5 thread for knits because it makes a strong non-flexible safety stitch. I have a regular Kenmore with a stretch stitch feature but the seams still pop out under fairly normal stress.

Do any of you do knits and have input? I don't need coverstitch because I just bought a used Rimoldi coverstitch. I have a singer 211G151 for regular straight stitching and my current Singer 14U12 does great for straight serging.

Any input from you all?
Or - if this isn't the right forum does anyone have any suggestions where I should go?

Thanks!

Steam Irons [Sep. 1st, 2007|09:18 pm]
[Tags|]
[mood | curious]

I cruised through tools and didn't see anything about steam irons there. Has anyone bought a new iron recently?

My steam iron is slowly sliding to the great scale repository in the sky. (Ok, so I keep forgetting to buy distilled water).

Does anyone have recommendations on current brands? I am entirely a steam junkie and don't consider it a worthy project if I haven't steam burned myself producing it.
